Hermetic storage bag supply and training, Post harvest losses and food security in Tanzania
Description
This is a survey data collected in two rounds from the Kilosa district in the Morogoro region located in Eastern Tanzania, which is among the six biggest maize producing regions in Tanzania. Maize is the main food and income generating crop in Kilosa. The district is characterised by a semi-humid tropical climate. Its mean annual rainfall ranges between 800mm and 1400mm. The district receives long-term rainfall from March to early June and ‘short rains’ from November to January. The district experiences a long dry season between June and October. The temperature ranges from 18 to 30 degrees centigrade, depending on the altitude. These conditions offer a typical climate for maize production and a suitable case study area. Although Kilosa district has two rainy seasons, the pattern and amount of rainfall allow for only one harvest of the main staples per cropping season. The survey sample consisted of 420 households in 21 villages in the Kilosa district. The sampling process involved two steps of random selection. First, a list of villages in Kilosa district which met two criteria: (1) maize is the main crop produced by the villagers and (2) maize is the main staple food in the village was obtained; and 21 villages were selected from the list. Second, 20 maize farming households from the household roster in the village office were randomly selected.

1.The dataset “PHL_Survey_Data.dta” is a raw data file collected from the first round survey which was conducted in June and July 2015. The survey interviewed either the head of household or the spouse and collected information on demographic and other socioeconomic characteristics, household food security and maize production practices from 420 households. One household was dropped because it was an outlier, operating on a large scale. This data is processed using the do file “Data processing_CLM_2020.do” to produce some variables and then combine with the second round data file “Second round data.dta”” to produce final data file “CLM_2020_data.dta” 2.The dataset “Second round data.dta” is a raw data file collected from the second round survey which was conducted in June 2016. This follow-up survey managed to interviewed 397 of the first round households. Twenty-two households could not be induced to participate. The same respondent was interviewed in the follow-up survey as in the first round. This data is processed using the do file “Data processing_CLM_2020.do” to produce some variables and then combine with the first round data file “PHL_Survey_Data.dta” to produce final data file “CLM_2020_data.dta” 3.The data set “CLM_2020_data.dta” is a panel data obtained after processing and combining the first and second round data sets. The data file is a final product of the do file “Data processing_CLM_2020.do” and it is the file used for analysis
