Replication files and data for Economic, Social, Environmental, and Institutional Factors Shaping Onshore Wind LCOE in Europe: Evidence from Spatial Panel Models
Description
This replication package accompanies the article “Economic, Social, Environmental, and Institutional Factors Shaping Onshore Wind LCOE in Europe: Evidence from Spatial Panel Models.” It tests the hypothesis that how economic, social, environmental, and institutional macro-level factors shape onshore wind LCOE in Europe via a Spatial Durbin Model. Please refer to the "README.md" file for a quick start and an end-to-end workflow overview. The code is self-contained and self-explanatory. Running the "_main.R" file reproduces all tables and figures reported in the paper. No synthetic data is generated, and all paths are relative to the current directory. For methodological details and interpretation, refer to the manuscript. All compiled data and code in this package are shared under the license stated on this record. Raw third-party data remain available from the cited providers; links and exact retrieval/processing instructions are explained in the "README.md" file.

Steps to reproduce
The dataset is assembled from multiple publicly available international sources. Workflow: 1. Raw data collection: Each dataset is downloaded in its original format and stored in source-specific subfolders. Where applicable, each subfolder includes a “_Data Retrieved.txt” file containing the retrieval date and source information, a “_Notes.docx” file containing collection notes, and the original data file(s). 2. Data: The scripts under the “R/_Data” directory clean and merge the raw data and spatial inputs (where applicable). Clean master data and shapefile (where applicable) are written to the “Output/_Data/_Master” directory before analysis-specific manipulation, subsetting, and transformation. 3. Analysis-data construction: The prepared master files are further manipulated, subsetted, transformed, ordered, and linked as required for the empirical analysis. The resulting analysis-ready data and spatial files (where applicable) are stored in the “Output/_Data/_Analysis” directory. 4. Analysis and estimation in R: The scripts under the “R/_Estimation” directory reproduce the descriptive analysis, main estimations, robustness analyses, figures, tables, and related outputs. 5. Analysis and estimation in Stata: Where applicable, the “Stata” directory contains the files required for analyses performed in Stata. 6. Reproducibility: The complete workflow is controlled by the “_main.R” file. Individual scripts may also be run separately when only a specific stage of the workflow needs to be reproduced. The R package environment is managed using the “renv” folder and “renv.lock” file. Software: This project uses R and Stata (where applicable). To reproduce the R environment on a new machine, restore the recorded package environment using renv::restore() and then run the “_main.R” file. Refer to “README.md” for additional information on the project structure and execution workflow.
