Description

This Dataset presents the basic wood density values (here considered to be similar to the wood specific gravity) of tree species that occur in ecotone forests in the northern Brazilian Amazonia. The basic wood density was obtained sampling tree species observed in 129 plots (50 m x 10 m). All the plots were dispersed on PPBio (Biodiversity Research Program) 25-km2 research grid installed in the eastern sector of Maracá Island, which is part of the Maracá Ecological Station, a Brazilian protected area located in the state of Roraima. The fieldwork was carried out between 2018-2019, where 680 stems (38 families, 79 genera, 108 species) were sampled using diameter at the breast high as sampling reference. We use a tree increment borer (Haglof, 150 mm length and 5.15 mm in diameter) to collect the samples. The data set is presented in one file (data_base_WD.xlsx) containing the sampling date, identification (plotID), geographic location of the plots (lat / long WGS 84), stem diameter (cm), taxonomic (family and species) and laboratory data (wood density - g cm-3, bark density - g cm-3 and width bark - mm). This dataset was supported by project “Crescimento e mortalidade de árvores em florestas ecotonais de Roraima: efeito das condicionantes ambientais e da variabilidade climática” (Proc. CNPq n. 403591/2016-3). H.L.S.F. and W.R.S. were supported by postgraduate fellowships from PELD Program (CNPq/CAPES/FAPs/BC-Fundo Newton; Proc. n. 441575/2016-1). The Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq - Brazil) also provided a fellowship for R.I.B. (Proc. CNPq 304204/2015-3).
