Description

Background: - Gait analysis is extensively used analytical device to assess the ability of human walk, by determine the difference in parameter and pattern of gait. It includes spatial and temporal gait parameters. Sedentary lifestyle may result in one or more musculoskeletal problem among healthy or asymptomatic individual that may affect the parameter of the gait. The aim of the study was to find out whether gait parameters would be affected in prolonged sitting and prolonged standing workers. Material and Method: - This cross-sectional study recruited 100 participants of age group between 36 – 49 years on the basis of inclusion and exclusion criterion. Equal participants were divided purposively on the basis of their occupation i.e. prolonged standing workers and prolonged sitting workers. Then their temporal and spatial parameters of gait were assessed using Temporal and Spatial Measure Gait Analysis Form as outcome measure. Result: - The normality of data was conducted by using Kolmogorov Smironov test which shows that the data was not normally distributed, hence non parametric test was applied. Level of significance (p-value) was set at <0.05. Prolonged sitting and prolonged standing shows significant difference in spatiotemporal parameter of gait for every individual for cadence, step length and stride length. But no significant difference was observed in foot angle and width of walking base within groups. Between the groups no significant difference were observed. .Conclusion:- The study concludes that the spatial and temporal gait parameter might not be affected in prolonged sitting and standing workers.
