Awareness of different types of stretching exercises as a warm up and cool down among recreational athletes in north India.

Background- Stretching may make you more flexible, which could reduce the likelihood of suffering muscle and tendon injuries, when combined with the two phases of any physical exercise essential to preparedness and recovery which are warm up and cool down. These training components are frequently ignored or underused. Therefore, by knowing what these routines encompass as well as their advantages when done correctly, we can expand their benefits in order to accomplish performance enhancement. Aim- To evaluate the level of understanding about different types of stretching exercises used as warm and cool down among recreational athletes, in north India. Materials and aims- This study was a cross-sectional study. 200 recreational athletes of age group between 15 years and 50 years participated in an online survey. The questionnaire had 3 parts including consent form, demographic data, questions related to stretching exercises, warm up and cool down. The questionnaire was directed using a link shared by social media applications, E-mails and online-forums. The collected responses of each participant were analysed by using Google forms and used to determine normality. Result - The present study revealed that 51.0% of respondents are aware about incorporate stretching in their warm up and cool down exercises and they always do it, while 36.0% claim they may have an idea though not fully aware they do it sometimes and 13.0 claim that they are not aware hence they never do it. Conclusion - According the result of the present study , more people are aware about different types of stretching exercises been used as warm up and cool down, However the majority of those have no knowledge on how to properly incorporate it into their warm up and cool down routine for effective results. It is essential to develop an intervention which can help to increase knowledge and understanding regarding this topic through educational means.
