Description

The effects of atmospheric variability on the acoustic performance of supersonic aircraft are evaluated. Findings show that an economically feasible aircraft (e.g., acceptable fuel consumption) can be quiet for every atmospheric profile and elevation. The geographic distribution of the U.S. population was also considered in measuring the affected population. Furthermore, no noticeable seasonal effects were observed in the evaluated cases.
