Description

The data were obtained from a cross-sectional survey of 550 physically active young adults aged 18–30 years. Participants completed self-report measures assessing sport-related superstition, religiousness, forgiveness, hope, and connectedness, along with demographic information including sex. Exercise-related data were collected on participants’ physical activity habits and characteristics. Superstition was measured using a short English version of the Sports Superstition Attitude Scale, while religion-related constructs were assessed using the Multidimensional Inventory for Religious/Spiritual Well-Being (RSWB-12; Fuchshuber & Unterrainer, 2021). All variables were measured at a single time point using Likert-type response formats, yielding continuous scores for belief-related constructs and categorical or continuous indicators of exercise habits.

Steps to reproduce

Recruit physically active adults aged 18–30 and collect data using an online survey platform. Administer the adapted English version of the Sports Superstition Attitude Scale along with the Multidimensional Inventory for Religious/Spiritual Well-Being (RSWB-12; Fuchshuber & Unterrainer, 2021) to measure religiousness, forgiveness, hope, connectedness; demographic variables (including sex), and exercise habits (exercise history, frequency, form, and competition status). Exclude items with explicit religious content from the superstition scale and conduct a confirmatory factor analysis to verify a unidimensional structure and acceptable model fit. Compute scale scores by averaging items and assess internal consistency using Cronbach’s alpha and McDonald’s omega. Examine associations among variables using correlations, network analysis, and canonical correlation analysis to assess relationships between belief systems and exercise characteristics.
