Description

International relations (IR) as a discipline has had a limited history in Albania. Indeed, the previous academic literature on the topic has highlighted how the limited research as a whole has negatively impacted on Albanian IR scholarship and has negatively impacted its visibility at the national and international level. The dataset aims to collect data on the state of International Relations (IR) in Albania and on Albania. Firstly, it shows IR’s history, institutional conditions, and its level of internationalisation in Albania. Secondly, it offers a systematic empirical analysis of articles/books published from 1991 to 2022 in international IR journals/publishing houses concerning the areas that Albanian IR scholars work in, the theories and methods they apply, and their geographical areas of interest. This part aims to make a broader assessment of Albanian scholars’ publications from 1990 to 2022 in international peer-reviewed journals as well as in publishing houses internationally. It aims to identify the Albanian publications in IR, gender of author, affiliation location of author, topics of publications, theoretical approach of each publication, so as to generate previously unexplored findings on the solidity and impact of Albanian IR research both in Albania and abroad. Thirdly, the dataset aims to offer systematic empirical analysis of articles/books published from 1991 to 2022 in international IR journals/publishing houses and that include Albania as a case study. This part aims to identify the areas that IR scholars (non-Albanian, foreign scholars) work in, the theories and methods they apply when researching on Albania. Based on the dataset, academic publications can be written. While the dataset does not provide an exhaustive list of all relevant publications written, effort has been made to include publications as much as possible. Note 1: meaning of Albanian IR scholar is Albanian working in Albania or abroad. Note 2: meaning of Foreign IR scholar is non-Albanian working in Albania or abroad. Keywords: Albania, International Relations, discipline, research.
