The Malaysian Agriculture and Plantation Greenhouse Gas Equilibrium Model (MAPGEM) predicts the economic impact of rice blast disease infecting the Malaysian paddy fields. MAPGEM forecasts land use, resources, prices, production, domestic consumption, imports, exports, and greenhouse gases between 2023 and 2068. It includes banana, cocoa, coconut, durian, forest, kenaf, mango, oil palm, papaya, pepper, pineapple, rambutan, rice, rubber, and waste biomass. MAPGEM allows the study of rice blast disease spreading across Malaysia. MAPGEM will enable farmers to transfer the infected land to oil palm plantations. The farmers can pay annual treatment costs to recover the infected paddy fields.
