Description

This dataset relates to the sedimentological, paleoenvironmental, and geochronological investigation of a Quaternary pre-glacial sedimentary succession preserved in eastern Lithuania, NE Europe. It contains a summary of all samples collected for the study, together with information on lithology, stratigraphy, grain-size characteristics, and sampling strategies for cosmogenic nuclide and luminescence dating and palynological analysis. A substantial part of the dataset consists of photoplates of specimens identified during the palynological analysis. The cosmogenic nuclide data include analytical information necessary for reproducibility of sample processing, together with details of the laboratory procedures. The accompanying text also provides a detailed description of the R-based depth-profile exposure-age modeling.

Steps to reproduce

To reproduce the results, use the sample inventory and supplementary tables to identify the stratigraphic position, lithology, analytical method, and sample-specific metadata for each dataset. Grain-size results can be reproduced from the reported particle-size data and EMMAgeo workflow, including the parameter optimization and end-member interpretation shown in the supplementary figures. Palynological results can be checked against the reported taxon counts and photoplates for the Anykščiai, Šlavė, and Vetygala samples. Cosmogenic-nuclide measurements can be reproduced following the detailed 10Be and 26Al sample-preparation and AMS procedures, while the exposure–burial ages can be recalculated using the supplied R scripts for the Anykščiai, Vetygala, and Daumantai sites, together with the parameter sensitivity tests and uncertainty treatment based on Monte Carlo forward modeling. Luminescence results can be reproduced using the described quartz OSL and K-feldspar pIRIR sample-preparation, measurement, dose-rate, and equivalent-dose procedures. The reported model outputs, age estimates, grain-size end members, pollen assemblages, and luminescence results can then be compared with the corresponding supplementary tables and figures.
