Description

This is the raw time series data from a custom force measurement system using Arduino. It provides force outputs (in grams) of a load cell connected to a DC motor acting as a small dynamometer for determining power characteristics of a small in-stream water wheel in an experimental water tunnel. It also provides frequency data by capturing data for each rotation of the turbine using a magnet and Hall effect sensor. This data is processed using the Matlab script as detailed below and in the file. Some notable findings include Cp-TSR curves for a number of blade depths and velocities, confirmation that the power produced by an undershot water wheel is proportional to both the depth ratio squared and the velocity cubed, as well as the linearity of torque vs. TSR.

Steps to reproduce

.csv files (in the form DDMMp0hXuY where DDMM is the date of the test, X is the depth ratio of the test, and u is the frequency of the pump in the tunnel) are generated throughout tests. In each file, the depth ratio and fluid velocity are held constant while the TSR is varied using a DC power supply in the lab. These results are then processed using a live Matlab script (.mlx) that removes spurious values, finds averages over periods, and calculates Cp values, and outputs a 'Summary' .csv file with this information in it. Note that the boundaries for each TSR are set manually in the script, and there are additional values that are to be discarded if they are outside of the testing timeframe. The script is a matlab 'live script' to make this manual boundary setting easier.
