Description

In Shizi Cave, Five stalagmites were selected to collect the nodules. On each stalagmite, three to four nodules were sampled. After returning to laboratory, two nodules from each stalagmite were randomly picked out and were ground using an agate mortar. Then, about 1 mg of the powder of each nodule was used for trace element analysis. Dissolution of the powder followed the methods used by Zhou et al. (2012) for speleothem trace element analysis. The trace element determination was conducted with ICP-MS at the RIF laboratory of the University of Queensland using the methods derived from Eggins et al. (1997).
