Description

The dataset is about spatial distributions and temporal variation of springtime extreme precipitation (SEP) days in North China (NC) during 1979-2019. The precipitation data is calculated by daily precipitation data derived from national operational rain gauges obtained from the National Meteorological Information Center of the China Meteorological Administration (http://data.cma.cn/). The 90th percentile of the daily precipitation at each rain gauge in North China in spring (March 1st to May 31st) during 1979–2019 is defined as spring extreme precipitation events. The extreme precipitation at 396 rain-gauge stations could be seen in extreme90.txt. The maximum precipitation at 396 rain-gauge stations in NC in springtime during 1979–2019 could be seen in maximum.txt. SEP days in NC are defined as the days when at least 10% of the 369 stations record SEP events. Then 277 days in all the 3772 spring days are defined as SEP days in NC during 1979–2019. The rest days are defined as non-SEP days. SEP days information could be seen in extremedaysinfo.txt. Frequency of SEP events at each station on SEP days could be seen in SEPeventsfrequency.txt. By using the objective classification method of the obliquely rotated principal analysis in T-mode with the data of the fifth-generation of the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts atmospheric reanalysis (https://cds.climate.copernicus.eu/cdsapp#!/home), atmospheric circulation had been classified into five different patterns based on the geopotential height at 700 hPa. The circulation classification result could be seen in alldaysinfo.txt and extremedaysinfo.txt. SEPeventsfrequency-t2.txt, SEPeventsfrequency-t3.txt and SEPeventsfrequency-t4.txt contains the frequency of SEP events at each station on Type 2, Type 3 and Type 4 SEP days during 1979–2019.More data infomation could be seen in the 1-data-description.doc.
