Data sets contain results from a study which was done Using 286 posterior resin composite restorations (RCRs) from 95 participants, a cross-sectional study was conducted at a public dental facility; Kenyatta National Hospital Dental Department (KNHDP), a teaching dental clinic; University of Nairobi Dental School (UoNDS), and a private dental facility; University of Nairobi Dental Plaza (UoNDP). Clinical evaluation was done visually using the United States Public Health Survey (USPHS) tool and data was analysed using STATA version 15(College Station TX, USA). Descriptive statistics, Pearson Chi-square and Fischer’s Exact tests were utilized for association between variables.

This was a cross-sectional study carried out at the University of Nairobi Dental School (UoNDS), the University of Nairobi Dental Plaza (UoNDP) and Kenyatta National Hospital Dental Department (KNHDP). Using stratified random sampling, 286 RCRs from 95 participants, placed over 5 years were recruited after seeking necessary approvals. Clinical evaluation was done by applying the United States Public Health Survey (USPHS) tool for color match, anatomy, marginal integrity, fracture and secondary caries. Perfect restorations were scored Alpha (A), acceptable restorations Bravo (B) and clinically failed restorations Charlie (C). Restorations were scored Alpha if there was no secondary caries and Bravo for presence of secondary caries. An adDent 110019 Microlux transilluminator was used to assess and compare marginal discoloration and secondary dental caries from examination. A Nikon DSLR with a Sigma macro lens and a Nissin ring flash was used capture peculiar findings of the RCRs. STATA version 15 was used to clean and analyze the data. Pearson Chi-square, Fischer’s Exact test, binary and multivariate regression analysis were carried were used to compare the relationship between variables and outcome with the level of significance taken as 0.05. Results were presented in tables and graphs.
