Description

This dataset is the raw data of stress-strain curves of Masson pine specimens under uniaxial, laterally restrained, and circumferentially restrained perpendicular to grain compression.

Steps to reproduce

About 25-year-old plantation of Masson pine (Pinus massoniana) having 24 cm diameter at breast height is collected from a demonstration forest in Chongzuo City, Guangxi Province (21°59′50" N, 107°2′2" E). Log segments are cut from the stems at a height of 1.5 m - 2.5 m. Cuboid specimens with dimensions of 20 mm (R) x 20 mm (T) x 30 mm (L) and cylindrical specimens with dimensions of 20 mm (Φ) x 30 mm (R or T) are cut from the segments. The cross-section of each specimen contains 3 - 5 layers of earlywood and latewood. All specimens are cured at 20 °C under 65 % relative humidity for 2 weeks and the moisture content is adjusted to ~12.8 %. The density of the specimens that are used for the test is 0.58 ± 0.04 g/cm3. uniaxial (U), laterally restrained (LR), and circumferentially restrained (CR) perpendicular to grain compression tests are conducted where the wood is in unidirectional, bidirectional, and tri-directional states of compression, respectively. Radial and tangential type loading are carried out for each stress state and 5 replicates of experiments are performed for each configuration. The specimens are loaded at a rate of 0.5 mm/min. The loading is terminated at about 100 kN, corresponding to nominal stress of about 150 MPa or more.
