Description

This dataset captures the voices and experiences of postpartum women in Niger State, Nigeria, exploring how they access, interpret, and act on information about maternal mental health especially postpartum depression. Collected through surveys and focus group discussions, the data reflects diverse perspectives across age groups, education levels, and cultural backgrounds. It sheds light on the role of healthcare providers, traditional media, digital platforms, and community networks in shaping awareness, attitudes, and help-seeking behaviour. Designed for researchers, policymakers, and health communicators, the dataset offers an authentic look at the intersection of risk communication, cultural context, and maternal wellbeing.

Steps to reproduce

Steps to Reproduce 1. Access the Dataset Download the raw dataset from the provided repository link (include DOI or URL). Ensure that all files are saved in their original structure and format (e.g., CSV, XLSX, transcripts). 2. Software Requirements Install IBM SPSS Statistics (version X.X) for quantitative analysis. Install NVivo (version X.X) or equivalent qualitative data analysis software for focus group transcripts. Ensure access to Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets for basic data review and cleaning. 3. Data Preparation Open the dataset and review variable labels and coding schemes. For quantitative data: check for missing values, outliers, and inconsistencies; recode variables as needed. For qualitative transcripts: verify speaker labels, remove personal identifiers, and format text for import. 4. Quantitative Analysis Import the cleaned survey dataset into SPSS. Run descriptive statistics (frequencies, means, standard deviations) for all variables. Conduct cross-tabulations and chi-square tests to explore relationships between information sources, awareness levels, and demographic characteristics. 5. Qualitative Analysis Import focus group transcripts into NVivo. Apply thematic coding using a framework informed by the Theory of Planned Behaviour (subjective norms, perceived behavioural control, and behavioural intention). Identify recurring patterns, culturally specific influences, and notable quotes. 6. Integration of Findings Compare and integrate quantitative and qualitative findings to highlight converging and diverging patterns. Generate summary tables, thematic maps, and charts for reporting. 7. Reproducibility Verification Cross-check outputs with the tables and figures in the article to ensure consistency. Save and document syntax files (SPSS) and coding structures (NVivo) for transparency.
