Description

The purpose of this inquiry was to seek to understand and describe the experiences of Paralympic athletes in regards to psychological preparation and coping strategies in high performance sport. Psychological preparation and skill training programs are seen throughout the literature (Blumenstein & Orbach, 2015; Larsen, 2014; Martin, 1999; Pensgaard et al.,1999). An assertion paramount to this study was the belief that understanding the experiences of Paralympic athletes would be best articulated at the individual athlete level through written reflections with depth and intensity. Writing responses help individuals clarify ideas and relationships between ideas, and draw on relevant knowledge and experiences, offering profundities that can only be expressed in the qualitative realm
