Description

This data is related to articles that examine the factorial structure and validity of the Jia et al. self-harm behavior scale in the Iranian student population. This scale is a measurement tool that is used to identify and measure self-harm behaviors. This data was collected through online questionnaires and includes the responses of 1250 students from Bandar Abbas universities. This data includes two main variables: the total score of the Jia et al. self-harm behavior scale and the total score of the Reid et al. screening scale for self-harm disorder. Both variables are measured numerically and with a 5-option Likert scale. This data is of high quality and easy to use. The data is accurate, complete, consistent and reproducible. The limitations and possible errors in the data include stratified random sampling, inappropriate or fraudulent response, and gender imbalance in the sample. To use the data, you need basic knowledge of statistics and data analysis software such as SPSS or Lisrel.

The statistical population consisted of all students of the universities of Bandar Abbas city in the academic year of 2022. The sample size for concurrent validity was determined to be 200 based on the existing sources, which is a suitable sample size for concurrent validity (39). The sample size for exploratory factor analysis was 550 students, which is a suitable sample size based on the previous studies (40). The sample size for confirmatory factor analysis was 300 students, which is also a suitable sample size (41). Also, for reliability, a sample size of 200 was considered, which is a very suitable sample size based on the studies (42). The sampling method for concurrent validity, factor analysis, and reliability was stratified random sampling. For stratification of the population, the type of university was used as the criterion. Therefore, five strata were formed, including Hormozgan University, Hormozgan University of Medical Sciences, Bandar Abbas Branch of Islamic Azad University, Bandar Abbas Branch of Payame Noor University, and Bandar Abbas Branch of Razavi Non-Profit Higher Education Institute. The sample size for each stratum was calculated using the formula of stratified random sampling nh = Nh × n / N, where nh is the number of people in the sample of stratum h, Nh is the number of people in the population of stratum h, n is the total number of people in the sample, and N is the total number of people in the population (43). Based on this, the sample size for the five strata were Hormozgan University (N1=6000 and n1=206), Hormozgan University of Medical Sciences (N2=4000 and n2=137), Bandar Abbas Branch of Islamic Azad University (N3=15000 and n3=514), Bandar Abbas Branch of Payame Noor University (N4=10000 and n4=342), and Bandar Abbas Branch of Razavi Non-Profit Higher Education Institute (N5=1500 and n5=51). After referring to each university, the samples were determined by simple random method through student number and with the help of Excel software. The inclusion criteria were being a volunteer and a student of Bandar Abbas city. The exclusion criterion was not completing the questionnaires. The informed consent of the participants was obtained before starting the questionnaire. It was also emphasized that all the information in the questionnaire would remain confidential so that the participants would choose the most accurate
