CryoSEM images showing secondary cell wall macrofibrils in seed plants
Description
Fresh woody material was harvested from twenty six plant species across gymnosperms and angiosperms and frozen in slush N2, cryo-fractured, sputter coated with a measured 3 nm platinum layer and then imaged at high magnification on a cryoSEM (Zeiss EVO equipped with Quorum PP3010 cryo system). Each image shows the wood ultrastructure of vessels/tracheids including individual cellulose macrofibrils. A separate folder "SCW_fibers" contain cryoSEM images of fibre cells of selected species. These data are used to measure the thickness of the macrofibrils from each species. Further details of the specimens that were sampled are shown in the associated Table 1 "Accession details".
