Circular Economy Behavior of People in Khulna City of Bangladesh

This study presents how environmental engagement, government intervention, economic consideration, sustainable institutional framework, and social obligation influence people’s circular economy behavior through the mediation of circular intention. An integrated theory of planned behavior and norm activation model is used to form the conceptual framework which is evaluated using the collected cross-sectional dataset. The partial least square-structure equation model technique is used to investigate circular economy intention and behavior of selected 170 households in Khulna city of Bangladesh. The result shows that environmental engagement, economic consideration, sustainable institutional framework, and social obligation significantly influence people’s intention of circular economy behavior. The mediation effect of circular intention on behavior is also found strong, while government intervention has no statistically significant effect on circular intention. The findings indicate that priority should be given on the establishment of a strong inclusive sustainable infrastructural ecosystem for people’s convenient involvement with circular economy. People should also be made aware about the relative economic benefits of circular economy as well as environmental and social responsibility.
