Description

I. Top Level Description This dataset archives simulations with Community Climate System Model version 3 (CCSM3), including a climate model simulation of a glacial interval during the Late Paleozoic Ice Age in which the altitude of the Central Pangaean Mountains has been raised to ~5000 m altitude to enable widespread tropical glaciation, cold, and aridity. Dust source apportionment experiments based on this simulation also are archived. The baseline climate simulation Isabel2_highmtncami2 was run on the cheyenne machine operated by the Computational Information Systems Laboratory (CISL) of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) between 13 July 2018 and 18 July 2018. The dust apportionment experiments were run on cheyenne on 20 July 2019. The baseline climate simulation is a hybrid of Isabel1 archived as DOI: 10.17632/fv54b3gp2w.1. More complete documentation is included in the top-level README.TXT References: Rosenbloom, N., C. Shields, E. Brady, S. Levis, and S. Yeager, 2011, Using CCSM3 for Paleoclimate Applications, National Center for Atmospheric Research (Boulder, CO) Technical Note, NCAR/TN-483+STR. Acknowledgments: These simulations made use of CISL-NCAR resources. Their execution and archiving were supported by the National Science Foundation under EAR-1337363.
