Description

Methods: In the present research, the influence of atomization on the mixing ratio in the gas phase of a free jet is investigated under ambient conditions. Experimental data of the mixing ratio, representing entrainment in the gas phase of a two-phase free jet under ambient conditions is provided in order to validate computational fluid dynamic (CFD) models. The local mixing ratio is determined from the tracer gas (helium) concentration in the gas phase. Radial profiles of the mixing ratio are measured at 5 different axial distances for 3 different nozzles applying 5 different gas-to-liquid ratios (GLR) for the two-phase free jet as well as a single-phase free jet. Each dataset in the zip-File (data.zip) includes one radial profile. The filename includes information about the number of the nozzle, the gas-to-liquid ratio (GLR) and axial distance z. The data is given in comma-separated values. In the first row of each dataset, the radial distance from the centerline is given in mm. In the second row, the mixing ratio is given. The mixing ratio X is the mass fraction of gas, which origins from the nozzle. (1-X) is the mass fraction of gas, which is entrained from the surrounding environment of the free jet. Methods, data and results are described in detail in the related paper: Hotz et al., 2022, Experimental investigation on entrainment in two-phase free jets. DOI number will be added as soon as the paper is accepted. Description of the data: For each nozzle, the gas mass flow at the nozzle is kept constant, in order to keep the momentum flow of the gas phase constant. The liquid mass flow is varied according to the gas-to-liquid ratio (GLR) of 1.50, 1.25, 1.00, 0.75 and 0.50 (see dataset with filename e.g. “…GLR_150…”) for each nozzle as well as a single-phase free jet, with no liquid mass flow. GLR--> infinity (see dataset with filename "...GLR_inf"). Nozzle dimensions and operating conditions are given in the file: "nozzles_operating_conditions.xlsx". The axial positions z of the radial profiles are given in the filename in mm (e.g. "...z_65.txt" --> z = 65 mm).
