Overcoming Challenges in Implementing Condition Monitoring Services: Recommendations from an Expert Elicitation Exploratory Study
Description
This dataset contains the research materials used to support the study “Overcoming Challenges in Implementing Condition Monitoring Services: Recommendations from an Expert Elicitation Exploratory Study.” The study investigates the challenges that limit the successful implementation of Condition Monitoring Services (CMS) by Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), the solutions used to overcome these challenges, and the recommendations that support successful implementation. The dataset provides full methodological transparency and includes all materials used during participant recruitment, data collection, and data analysis. Specifically, the dataset contains: Call for participants, including the invitation email used to recruit experts. Participant consent forms, outlining ethical procedures, confidentiality provisions, and informed consent requirements. Interview protocol and interview guide, including the discussion framework, interview questions, facilitation prompts, and supporting materials used during the expert elicitation process. Anonymized interview transcripts from the expert interviews. Data analysis materials, including coded statements, category development, first-order themes, second-order themes, and supporting analytical outputs used to derive the findings reported in the manuscript. The study employed an exploratory expert elicitation approach involving specialists from OEMs, research centres, universities, and consultancy organizations with expertise in Condition Monitoring Services. All interview data have been manually anonymized to protect participant confidentiality. This dataset enables readers to examine the research process, evaluate the analytical procedures, and trace the progression from raw empirical data to the challenges, solutions, and managerial recommendations presented in the study. It is intended to support transparency, reproducibility, and future research on CMS implementation, digital servitization, and advanced industrial service development.

Steps to reproduce
This dataset was generated through an exploratory qualitative study on the implementation of Condition Monitoring Services (CMS) by Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 13 experts from OEMs, universities, research centres, and consultancy organizations with experience in CMS, digital servitization, advanced services, and Industry 4.0. Interviews followed a predefined interview guide focused on implementation challenges, potential solutions, and recommendations for successful CMS implementation. Interviews were audio-recorded with participant consent, transcribed, and anonymized. The data were analysed using inductive thematic analysis. Meaningful statements were coded, grouped into categories, refined into first-order themes, and aggregated into second-order themes through iterative review by two researchers. The dataset includes the call for participants, consent forms, interview guide, anonymized transcripts, and data analysis outputs used to support the findings reported in the associated publication.
