Data and R code supporting “Microwave and cold treatments against adult Sitophilus granarius: apparent immobilization, delayed mortality, and microwave-associated mass loss in durum wheat”
Description
This dataset supports a laboratory study of microwave- and cold-induced responses in adult Sitophilus granarius and microwave-associated mass loss in two durum wheat cultivars. It includes raw and processed apparent-immobilization observations, post-exposure microwave follow-up, repeated grain-mass measurements, pre-moistened wheat measurements, immediate cold-response observations, dish-level 48-h mortality after deep-freeze exposure, the complete R analytical workflow, generated tables and figures, and a detailed data dictionary. Immediate apparent immobilization is distinguished from mortality confirmed after a post-exposure observation period. For the microwave treatment, partial recovery of mobility was observed 1 h after completion of the cumulative exposure sequence, whereas no adults were mobile after 24 h. The estimated time to 90% apparent immobilization was 40.30 s, with a cluster-bootstrap 95% confidence interval of 30.31–50.73 s. At the 48-h assessment following cold exposure, all adults in all 70 replicate dishes were classified as dead across −30 °C exposures of 5, 10, and 15 min and −20 °C exposures of 5, 10, 15, and 30 min. The repository also documents microwave-associated wheat mass loss and the analytical distinction between immediately observed responses and confirmed delayed mortality. The package is organized into primary data, scripts, generated results, documentation, licensing files, and a SHA-256 integrity manifest. Instructions for reproducing the analyses are provided in the README file.

Steps to reproduce
Download the complete dataset and preserve the original folder structure. Extract the files if necessary, then open JSPR_analysis.Rproj in RStudio. Install the required R packages listed in the README file, including readr, dplyr, tidyr, ggplot2, scales, lme4, lmerTest, and emmeans. Run the complete analytical workflow using: source("scripts/analysis_JSPR_FINAL.R") The script imports the primary CSV datasets from the data directory and generates the statistical tables and figures stored in the results directory. After execution, verify that every row in results/tables/Z_validation_report.csv has passed = TRUE. Also verify that results/tables/D2_cold_deep_freeze_48h_followup_summary.csv contains seven temperature–duration combinations, each based on 10 replicate dishes and showing a mean 48-h mortality proportion of 1.0. Variable definitions, units, analytical roles, and interpretation are provided in data/data_dictionary.csv. The R and package versions used for the final analysis are documented in results/sessionInfo.txt.
