Description

chin symphysis bone graft is the most popular intraoral donor site for alveolar cleft operation, but iliac crest bone graft still use commonly for defect treatment.in this study we combined allograft with chin symphysis bone to achieve enough graft volume while minimum morbidity(like nerve injury) have occurred. We compared iliac bone graft versus mentioned approach in success & morbidity. For the first time we utilized cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) for volumetric comparison analyze between these two modalities. this randomized clinical trial performed with 22 patients suffered from unilateral alveolar cleft over 12 month follow up.12 repairs included chin bone graft+allograft (group A) while 10 repairs contain iliac bone crest(group B)as donor site.12 month after surgical process we obtained CBCT to compare bone formation percent. at one year, post operative CBCT demonstrated that 76.9% of alveolar defect was filled in group A compare with 77% in group B. paresthesia in lower lip or chin didn’t occur in any patients of group A. the surgical process duration between two group was significantly shorter in group A as well as gaining normal gait.
