Description

Research hypothesis, Polystyrene foam is a material with superior properties of mechanical resistance, thermal insulation resistance to extreme environmental conditions, hydrophobic, long-lasting over time, and does not lose these properties after its useful life, discarding it without a proper treatment generating a huge problem due to its volume in the spaces where it is discarded and stored globally, so it is a material that could be recycled by transforming its volume, with which the mentioned properties would change to be reused in engineering pieces with various shapes. Their data shows that when it is processed by compression, its properties change remarkably. Any notable findings and how the data can be interpreted. The changes in properties at 25°C and -15°C when compressed to various thicknesses show materials with a high degree of thermal insulation, a high degree of hydrophobicity, and high hardness: high tenacity, flexibility, and ability to change shape without breaking. Add enough description to allow others to understand the data, how it was collected, and how to interpret and use it. The data shows us that it is a versatile material when compressed and that the data presented is common since it supports the process at various thicknesses. The data shown gives the possibility of using the material to the needed thicknesses and with the shapes that are of interest for its application.

Steps to reproduce

Outline how arrived at this data, All data was obtained from the method developed to recycle the material to help others understand how the data was gathered and how to reproduce this research. For instance, which methods and protocols were used, and instruments, reagents, software or workflows, if any? The method consisted in grinding the polystyrene foam of various densities until obtaining the particle size of interest. The protocol was based on the scientific method. They were used after grinding the press material of different loads. Here, one advantage of the material is that it can take the desired shape using molds with those shapes under load. The method is simple and does not contaminate, achieving this reuse of the material and reducing contamination by this material.
