Description

This dataset contains the de-identified individual patient data underlying a single-centre retrospective cohort study of intraoperative ultrasound-guided excision for myxofibrosarcoma of the extremities and trunk. Sixty-five patients treated at one tertiary referral centre between January 2008 and December 2024 are included, with follow-up updated through June 2025. Patients are divided by treatment era into a conventional excision cohort (2008-2013, n = 15) and an ultrasound-guided excision cohort (2014-2024, n = 50). Three patients in the ultrasound-guided cohort are flagged as excluded from the primary comparative analysis (one with distant metastasis at presentation, two who underwent marginal rather than wide excision), giving a primary analysis cohort of 62 patients. The file provides 27 variables per patient: demographic and tumour characteristics (sex, age, anatomical site group, maximum diameter, depth relative to fascia, FNCLCC grade, presence of an MRI tail sign, clinical presentation at referral), treatment variables (intended extent of resection, perioperative radiotherapy and chemotherapy), the primary margin endpoint (R0 versus R1, and among R0 margins a clearance of at least 1 mm versus less than 1 mm), and time-to-event data for overall survival, local recurrence-free survival, and distant metastasis-free survival. The dataset is analysis-ready and reproduces every patient-level result reported in the associated article, including the margin comparison, the Kaplan-Meier survival estimates, and the internal comparison between treatment eras. A codebook defining every variable is included. The matching-adjusted indirect comparisons reported in the article used aggregate data reconstructed from Kaplan-Meier curves published by seven external cohorts. Those reconstructed data are not included here; the individual patient data in this file are the index-cohort input to those comparisons. All direct identifiers, the date of birth, and all calendar event dates have been removed. Only the calendar year of surgery is retained, because it defines the treatment-era cohort. Time to event is provided as an interval in months from the date of surgery. Age is rounded to one decimal place and top-coded at 90 years.
