The Role of Cognitive Dysfunction and Health Literacy on the Quality of Life in Cancer Survivors

Background: In the field of community mental health, quality of life is one of the most important aspects of caring for cancer survivors. Considering that cognitive impairment and cancer health literacy affect daily activity, work capacity, participation, personal well-being and overall quality of life of cancer survivors, a comprehensive plan for caring for cancer survivors can be developed so that their lives can continue after high quality recovery.. Methods: With a descriptive correlational design, of 350 cancer survivors from cancer survivors from Shahid Beheshti University of medical (shohaday Tajrish Hospital) who had completed at least one year of their last treatment at the end of 2021 voluntarily online and in person. They answered the Cognitive Failure Questionnaire (Broadbent, et. al., 1982), the cancer health literacy Test (CHLT-30) (Dumenci, et. al,. 2014) and the Quality of life in adult cancer survivors (QLACS) (Avis. et. al., 2005). Results: Data analysis with Pearson correlation showed a negative relationship between cognitive dysfunction and quality of life, so that path analysis showed that 25% of quality of life is explained by cognitive dysfunction and cancer health literacy is not correlated with and does not predict the quality of life of cancer survivors .Conclusions: According to the findings, the optimization of cognitive functions after treatment was emphasized in order to increase the quality of life of cancer survivors.
