Description

A PIV test facility called PIROUETTE (PIv ROd bUndlE Test faciliTy at bmE) has been built at BME (Budapest University of Technology and Economics) NTI (Institute of Nuclear Techniques). The facility is capable of investigating of flow processes under isothermal conditions with different type triangular lattice seven-rod bundles. The currently investigated rod bundle is featuring spacer grids and hydraulic conditions related to the VVER-1000 and VVER-1200 fuel assemblies. For technical reasons, the geometry used here is a slightly enlarged version of the original geometry, which represents a 9.9% increase in D while maintaining the P/D ratio. This small bundle of 7 rods is a geometrically accurate representation of a piece of the real reactor's fuel bundle, including the spacer grids. These spacer grids were 3D printed from a special type of plastic for the PIV experiments in order to reproduce the real geometry inside the assemblies as accurately as possible. The effect of the spacer grids with vanes (which are located on the spacer grid belt section) was investigated using different test grid configurations. The detailed, high resolution experimental data could be used for CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) benchmarking and code validation, and therefore can serve the further safe and reliable operation of these type of reactors. The results include velocity field, velocity standard deviations (RMS), Reynolds stress and turbulent kinetic energy distributions extracted from the measured data. The results presented here include the 3D model of the measurement geometry and velocity distributions along various monitor lines from experiments. File Description Geometry files are provided under the name 'VVER-1200-FLUID_V1, VVER-1200-FLUID_V2 and VVER-1200-FLUID_V3' in three formats: StereoLithography (*.stl), STEP (*.stp), and Parasolid (*.x_t). Datafiles are available in excel format (*.xlsx). The data are organised in separate subfolders according to the different measurement cases. Each subfolder contains three excel files containing the results recorded in the three different planes. The nomenclature is as follows: the file VVER-1200_V3_P1_Monitor_Lines.xlsx contains the first set of monitor line velocities recorded on the "P1" position plane of the "VVER-1200" rod-bundle "V3" type spacer grid. The excel table contains 6 separate tabs covering velocity distributions recorded at distances 0.5, 1, 2, 3, and 5D distances. The first 0.5D tab also includes an explanatory figure and the data series are plotted on a graphs.
