Description

The data set represents abortion clinics that were open in and around Texas pre the Supreme Court rule to overturn Roe vs. Wade (2022), and the abortion clinics that remain open in the same areas (2022). By combining these records, it is possible to begin exploring the impact of the Supreme Court decision on the United States and availability to abortion care and clinics, particularly in Southern, conservative areas. It will help to show which the affects of federal and state policy on abortion rights, in terms of which clinics were allowed to stay open, and where those are located. The initial data sets were gathered from two main sources, and then combined. -The Texas Abortion Clinic Map lists the abortion clinics that were open in and around Texas -Google Maps Search of Open Abortion Clinics In and Around Texas Before the overturn of Roe V Wade there were 60 abortion clinics open in and around the Texas area. After the overturn, there were only 32 of the clinics still open. This means that 46% of the clinics in the area no longer offer abortion services, and many of them are closed entirely. From the center of Texas, clinics are at least seven hours away. The initial data sets were used to demonstrate the relationship between abortion clinics that have closed in Texas and available abortion clinics outside of Texas. A lot of clinics could not meet the new restrictions put in place which resulted in closure. Therefore, the map also indicates locations near Texas that are still open. These places are long distances away from many areas in Texas, meaning that long periods of time are required for travel. This shows how people in Southern, conservative states do not have the same access to care as people who live in states where aboriton is still accessible.
