Sedimentary mechanisms and high-resolution stratigraphy of Upper Pleistocene deposits of the eastern coast of Tunisia (Hergla escarpment)

- Magentic susceptibility data: the analysis of magnetic susceptibility (MS) signal variations involved 43 samples from representative facies. Samples were packed into 10 cm3 cylindrical plastic (perspex) pots for MS analysis. The low-frequency magnetic susceptibility (MS) was measured by a Bartington MS2B probe at frequencies of 0.47 kHz. - the screen washings performed on marls showed that the fossil components were primarilycomposed of ostracods and benthic foraminifera. The micropaleontological determination of the different species using a Scanning Microscope. - Semi-quantitative analysis of allochems were performed on on 22 thin-sections that revealed various skeletal components. Results of bioclasts frequencies needed for the semi-quantitative analysis are summarized in the table below (Bioclast's frequencies data).


Steps to reproduce

The steps listed below have been carefully followed for magnetic susceptibility analysis: - Make sure that the environmental conditions are ideal for taking measurements; - Measure the magnetic susceptibility of the air before introducing the sample; - Introduce the sample and measure its magnetic susceptibility and its mass; - Measure the magnetic susceptibility of the air again after removing the sample; - Enter the sample ID and its mass; - Repeat the procedure 3 times; - Calculate the mean of the 3 values which corresponds to the value of the MS of the sample.
