Description

This repository provides the replication data and code for "Energy Security, Global Relative Performance, and Productivity: Cross-Country Evidence from 129-207 Countries" (Jin, 2026). The dataset is a country-year panel (2009-2023) covering up to 207 countries, combining variables from the World Development Indicators, the Penn World Table, and the IMF World Economic Outlook. It includes country-specific inputs (labor share, capital stock per capita, energy-use intensity, carbon intensity, energy-import dependence) and six rolling-window factor loadings capturing each country's global relative performance within its energy-security peer group. analysis_code.py constructs the global factors via GDP-weighted portfolio sorting, estimates the two-way fixed-effects panel models, and reproduces Tables 3-9 and the magnitude calculations reported in the paper. Variable definitions and estimation details are documented in the paper's Sections 3-4.
