Description

The dataset covers the research data of the research paper "Controlled autoignition inside an active pre-chamber using alternative fuels" (DOI: 10.1016/j.applthermaleng.2024.125300) published in Applied Thermal Engineering. The data were measured on a thermodynamic four-stroke direct-injection spark-ignition single-cylinder engine with a compression ratio of 18.1 and equipped with an active pre-chamber. Diethoxymethane was applied as pre-chamber fuel to assess the applicability of the controlled autoignition of the pre-chamber charge. The performance of this combustion concept was compared to the application of methanol as pre-chamber fuel, which was ignited by a spark plug inside the pre-chamber. Primarily, variations of the relative air/fuel ratio in the exhaust gas were performed at an engine speed of 2000 1/min and a net indicated mean effective pressure of 12 bar. The application of diethoxymethane yielded a reliable autoignition of the pre-chamber charge, indicating no significant disadvantages in the combustion process compared to the methanol-fueled PC. The same maximum net indicated efficiency of 47% was achieved at a relative air/fuel ratio in the exhaust gas of 2.7.
