A multilayer and spatial description of the Erasmus mobility network

A linked and manually verified dataset of the Erasmus mobility between European higher education institutions as a multiplex, multipartite, multi-labelled, spatial network is presented. The Erasmus mobility network was enriched with the integration of mobility and three databases: the institutional socio-economic data of the European Tertiary Education Register (ETER), the Global Research Identifier Database (GRID) as well as points of interest concerning surrounding institutions. The headquarters of institutes were geocoded to investigate spatial characteristics of the mobility network. The linked datasets provide relevant information to grasp a more comprehensive understanding of the mobility patterns and the attractiveness of the institutions.
