Description

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND- Anterolisthesis presents with tightness of hamstring muscle which is a major contributing factor for low back pain and disability. Sub occipital myofascial release decreases tension in the fascia and helps to amend the muscle imbalance. Purpose- The purpose of the study is to find out the effect of suboccipital myofascial release on hamstring tightness along with pain and disability associated with Anterolisthesis Methods- Patients (32) who were already diagnosed by medical practitioners with Grade 1 and 2 anterolisthesis taken in the study and sequentialy allocated into suboccipital myofascial release group and conventional group on the basis of selection criteria. Modified Oswestry disability Index(MODI) was used to measure the patients functional disability, muscle tightness was measured by Popliteal Angle( PA). Numeric Pain Rating Scale was used for to measure the intensity of pain. The experimental group received suboccipital myofascial release along with core strengthening exercises for 4 times a week for 4 weeks. The Control group received conventional physiotherapy with included hydrocollator pack for 15 minutes and passive static stretching of muscles for 5 repititions with 30 secs hold. Pre and post assessments were taken for all the outcome measures and the assessments were taken at baseline, 2 weeks and after 4 weeks. Resuls- Both the groups showed improvement, however the effect size of Group 1 was larger for all the three variables in comparison to Group 2. The mean change scores also better in Experimental group was as compared to the control group. CONCUSION- The present study provides an evidence that for Grade 1 and 2 Anterolisthesis, suboccipitalis myofascial release along with core strengthening excercises can be applied to reduce pain and improve functional abilities. Keywords- Hamstring muscles, low back pain, pain measurement.
