Description

This dataset is based on the research of groundwater circulation in the North China Plain. The dataset shows the oxygen isotope signature of groundwater in different aquifers. The results of the data show that there is inter-basin groundwater flow in the North China Plain.

Steps to reproduce

In August 2019 and August 2022, a total of 44 water samples were collected from the interior of the North China Plain and the mountainous areas surrounding it. In addition, available data from the literature were collected. In all, the data comprised 661 hydrogen and oxygen stable isotope measurements of various water bodies, including data from shallow groundwater (154), deep groundwater (191), karst water (195), geothermal water (106), and mountain lake water (15).(Wang et al., 2000; Chen, 2001; Minissale et al., 2008; Yang, 2009; Liu et al., 2012; Zhang, 2013; Fang et al., 2014; Sun et al., 2016; Qin et al., 2017; Han and Currell, 2018; Qu et al., 2018; Yang et al., 2018; Lu, 2019; Li, 2020; Tang et al., 2021; Wei, 2021; Wang et al., 2022; Liu et al., 2023a; Sun et al., 2023b; Zheng et al., 2024). Groundwater samples were classified based on depth or aquifer type. In the central and coastal plains, samples from depths below 100 m or from layer III and IV aquifers are considered deep groundwater. In the mountain plains, depths greater than 200 m or from layer II, III, and IV aquifers are classified as deep groundwater. If the depth or aquifer was not specifically mentioned in the literature, it was considered to be shallow groundwater. Hydrogen and oxygen stable isotope data for precipitation were sourced from GNIP (Global Network of Isotopes in Precipitation), CNIP (China National Isotope Program), and Zhao et al. (2018).
