Replication package for “Testing Human-Time Economics: Did the Engine of Growth Shift After 1973?”
Description
Complete data and code to reproduce every table and figure in “Testing Human-Time Economics: Did the Engine of Growth Shift After 1973?” and its Supplementary Appendix. Includes the reconstructed annual United States series 1950–2024 for all six margins of the human-time decomposition; the thirty-two-economy retrospective and thirty-economy forward panels used for the temporal-leverage horse race; estimation code in Python with independent implementations of the Bai–Perron, sup-Wald and OLSCUSUM procedures in R, Stata, MATLAB and EViews; all figures; and a README mapping every exhibit to the code block that produces it. All randomised procedures use the fixed seed 20260818.
Files
Steps to reproduce
Run the scripts in code/ in the numbered order given in README section 1 (build_data → econ → econ2 → lambda → robust → harmonise_dates → supp_A → supp_B → figs → supp_figs → mkxlsx). Each writes into data/ and later scripts read what earlier ones wrote. Total runtime is under four minutes on a laptop. Python 3.11 with numpy, pandas, statsmodels, scipy, matplotlib and openpyxl is sufficient; the R, Stata, MATLAB and EViews files are independent re-implementations of the break tests, not required for the pipeline. README section 2 maps every table and figure to the file and code block that produces it.
