Ophthalmic Stroke Biomarkers in south Asia
Description
This was a cross sectional hospital based study of stroke survivors who were evaluated for recall of their stroke signs and symptoms by the VISA tool as well as detailed history taking and examination to determine the systemic and ophthalmic associations of the condition. This was expected to provide leads towards a possible biomarker for stroke in the relatively younger stroke subjects.

The VISA tool data and systemic and ophthalmic evaluation was cross-sectionally performed in 100 stroke survivors who were following up in a stroke clinic in a tertiary care teaching hospital in New Delhi, India. The data collection was manual. Long standing systemic hypertension was ubiquitous with hypertensive retinopathy being present in a large number of cases, making this sign an important ophthalmic pointer for "at risk" stroke subjects from this relatively younger south Asian cohort.
