Description

This file contains the raw data and the script for analysing the sorption capacities of five plant-based biochars for Cd(II), Zn(II) and Pb(II). This data is part of the supplementary information of the paper "The relationship between properties of plant-based biochars and sorption of Cd(II), Pb(II) and Zn(II) in soil model systems" (open access paper can be found at: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.heliyon.2020.e05388). The experimental data was fit to Langmuir and Hill sorption isotherm models and the goodness of fit was assessed by the Akaike Coefficient Criterion (AIC). Thereafter, significant differences in the fitted parameters between biochars were determined as described by Ritz and Streibig (2009). All the analysis were conducted with R. The data also include SEM-EDX images of biochars exposed to Cd(II), Pb(II) and Zn(II). Biochars were produced from oil seed rape straw at 500 ⁰C and 700 ⁰C (OSR550, OSR700), wheat straw (WSP550), Miscanthus straw (MSP550) and soft wood (SWP550) pellets at 500 ⁰C. The biochars were supplied by the UK Biochar Research Centre (https://www.biochar.ac.uk/standard_materials.php).
