Dataset: Eco-hydrological Buffering Capacity of Riparian Vegetation on Benthic Macroinvertebrate Communities in Tropical Irrigation Channels
Description
This dataset contains the raw data collected from an ex-post facto observational study assessing the environmental and biological gradients between riparian-buffered and non-riparian (unbuffered) agricultural irrigation channels. The study was conducted in Kanigoro and Balearjo Villages, Pagelaran District, Malang, East Java, Indonesia, during the transition period from the wet to the dry season.

Steps to reproduce
1. Site Selection: Identify and establish 150-m longitudinal sampling stations in irrigation channels, categorized into riparian-buffered (R) and non-riparian (NR) habitats. Subdivide each into three 50-m contiguous transects. 2. Physicochemical Measurement: Measure in-situ water quality parameters (pH, EC, Turbidity, TDS, Air and Water Temperature) across all replicates during the seasonal transition (wet to dry monsoon) to ensure stable hydrological condition. 3. Biological Sampling: Assess riparian vegetation to determine relative density, frequency, and calculate the Importance Value Index (IVI). Collect benthic macroinvertebrates using a standard hand net across all sampling stations. 4. Identification & Calculation: Identify macroinvertebrate taxa to the family level in the laboratory. Calculate their abundance, IVI, and the Family Biotic Index (FBI) tolerance values to assess eco-hydrological buffering capacity. 5. Data Integration: Compile all environmental and biological metrics into the provided dataset format for comparative spatial analysis between R and NR habitats.
