Description

This dataset contains raw information used in the paper 'Response of shallow lakes in the arid-semiarid Pampas of Argentina to Late Holocene hydroclimatic change' to build figures and diagrams. The dataset includes diatoms and phytoliths counting and percentage, main grain size fractions, and PCoA scores of four shallow lakes located in the Pampean region, Argentina. This research aims to identify the main drivers and mechanisms of long-term ecological change; it also attempts to identify the main climatic mechanisms behind the regional hydroclimatic variability. It was found that these lakes were initially temporary, with clear waters, and eventually, became permanent with turbid waters; we propose that the reason behind the change is an increase in precipitation that promoted an increase in water levels, lake expansion increasing lakes' fetch, and resuspension of the sediment.
