Principal component analysis (PCA) was applied to identify the effect of walking speeds on muscle coordination. In our study, a matrix, p×N, was arranged, where p = 800 values per pattern (8 muscles×100 time points for the EMG intensity), and N = 14097 gait cycles analyzed (4247 GCs from 1.0 m/s; 4400 GCs from 1.3 m/s; and 5450 GCs from 1.6 m/s) . The sets of component coordination patterns across muscles are represented by PC weightings, whereas the loading scores define how much of each component coordination pattern is present in the individual GCs.
