Description

This prospective study investigated the validity of automated digital PAR scoring by comparing conventional measurement using study models to computer-based automated scoring using either scanned study models or intra-oral scanning. Methods: Sixty-seven patients underwent alginate impression-taking and intra-oral scanning (Carestream CS 3600) at a single appointment in a random order. For each patient, a weighted PAR score was calculated manually by a calibrated examiner using study models and a PAR ruler (Conventional), and automatically using Carestream Model+ software and data from scanned study models (Indirect Digital) or intra-oral scans (Direct Digital). All procedures were timed and each patient completed a short binary questionnaire relating to their experience.
