Description

The dataset provides information on tree stem diameter (≥ 10cm) and total tree height (m) for estimate above-ground biomass in different soil classes and forest types of the Serra da Mocidade National Park, state of Roraima, northern Brazilian Amazonia. Our sampling took into consideration 707 initial trees (all of them alive) observed in the Trilha do Gato, a 2.7 km transect (31.1-64.8 m a.s.l.) crossing three different forest types: (i) mosaic between treed and forested shade-loving (La+Ld), (ii) area of ecological tension between forested shade-loving and open ombrophilous forest (LO) and (iii) open ombrophilous forest (Ab+As). The sampled area for each forest type was 0.530 ha (Ab+As), 0.334 ha (LO) and 0.192 ha (La+Ld). All tress/palms were measured annually among June/2016 and May/2018 (stem diameter in 2016-2018, and total height only in 2018). Soil classes are related to flooding periodicity for each forest type observed: Entisols Fluvents (La+Ld, 3-4 months flooded), Entisols Quartzipsamments (LO, 1-2 months) and Yellow Ultisols (Ab+As, no flooding), as specified by Beltrán-Alemán et al. (2019) in International Journal of Plant & Soil Science, 28(6): 1-11. Our dataset has one file (serra_da_mocidade.xlx) where are presented the code for each sampled tree/palm (treeID), associated to its taxonomic identification (family; species), sampling date, altitude (m a.s.l.), flooding periodicity, POM (point of measure of stem diameter), forest type, soil class, stem diameter (cm), and total height (m). The dataset was supported by the project “Crescimento e mortalidade de árvores em ecótonos determinados por limitações hidroedáficas do centro-sul de Roraima” (PPI-INPA). The Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq – Brazil) provided a fellowship for R. I. Barbosa (CNPq 304204/2015-3). L. A. Beltrán-Alemán was supported by a postgraduate fellowship from the Organization of American States (OAS). Instituto Chico Mendes de Conservação da Biodiversidade (ICMBio) provided authorization for the study (SISBIO n. 54221-2) in the Serra da Mocidade National Park.
