Dataset for the impact of sedimentary heterogeneities on oil recovery
Description
This dataset encompasses geological attributes and flow simulation results of basin-plain thin-bedded turbidites. Geological attribute data were collected from the Eocene Itzurun Formation in the Zumaia section (Basque Basin), northern Spain, whereas flow simulation results were obtained by simulating oil flow using waterflood scheme based on blackoil simulation technique.

Steps to reproduce
The Itzurun Formation part of the Zumaia section was logged at fine scale to enable bed-scale examination of geological attributes to be made. These attributes include but are not limited to lithology, grain size, sandstone-mudstone ratio, net-to-gross, bed thickness, sand and shale geometry and dimensions, stack patterns, and facies types. They were combined to derive attribute indices to characterize a particular interval or zone of interest. The parameters serve as quantitative input data to build 3-D models using Sequential Indicator Simulation. Qualitative input allowed integrated bed-to-bed correlation that is consistent ith field observation, having traced bed packages laterally over the lateral spacing of choice. Attribute indices calculated are (1) facies net-to-gross index (2) vertical connectivity index (3) lateral connectivity index (4) sand connectivity index. The formulae for calculating these indices are presented in Omoniyi (2017), Omoniyi and Stow (in press), and Omoniyi et al. (in press). They allow flow simulation results to be conditioned to geological concept for groundtruthing flow parameters. Blackoil simulation technique was adopted to simulate oil flow while assessing oil production rate, water cut, cumulative production, and more. Permeability data from the Jurassic North Brae field (UK Continental Shelf) was used, after conditioning to facies model, to achieve flow simulation. The development strategy used to achieve the simulation consists of 1 water injector and 1 oil producer, spaced 100 m apart to yield high-resolution results.
