Description

According to the International Energy Association, the number of air conditioning units installed globally has jumped from about 1.6 billion to 5.6 billion today due to population growth, urbanization, etc. Therefore, the energy consumption for air conditioning has increased drastically. As well, the destruction done to the environment due to the usage of refrigerant gases with high ODP GWP values is immense. This project is done with the main objective of working towards a sustainable environment. In order to do that we have focused our attention on Eco Friendly air conditioning and cost effective air conditioning. As well, to reduce the electricity consumption, solar energy – a renewable energy source will be used to a great extent. The air conditioning unit consists of two main procedures. It is the dehumidification and the cooling. Dehumidification is designed to be done using a desiccant wheel and the apparatus for cooling is fabricated. Due to the closure of universities, time was limited. Unfortunately, the simulations could not be done. However, the fabrication and assembly of components are successfully completed. Designing calculations, results and the problems encountered during fabrication and assembly are discussed in this technical report.
