Description

Data is from 365 agribusiness SMEs in two climatic regions, semi-arid Kajiado and high rainfall Kiambu capturing SME attributes, key weather effects in the last five years and the responses (sustainable that maintain or even grow the business and reactive that contracts business operations). The amounts saved as a response to weather effects and the costs incurred in responding.

Steps to reproduce

Face to face interviews of off-farm agribusiness enterprises in the towns of Kajiado and Kiambu Counties. The Counties of Kiambu and Kajiado were selected as were the sub-Counties of Kajiado South, Kajiado Central, and Kajiado East in Kajiado. Additionally, the sub-Counties of Limuru, Kikuyu, Kabete, Lari, Gatundu South, Gatundu North, Githunguri, Kiambu, Kiambaa, Ruiru, Juja, and Thika Town in Kiambu were included. Furthermore, the towns of Kitengela, Kajiado, Ongata Rongai, Kiserian, Isinya, Ngong, Namanga, and Loitokitok in Kajiado, as well as Thika, Ruiru, Juja, Lari, Limuru, Githunguri, Kamwangi, Kikuyu, Kabete, Kiambu, and Kiambaa in Kiambu. Individual agribusiness SMEs in these towns were randomly chosen depending on their availability and willingness to participate in the study.
