Description

Review question: What evidence is there of an association between substance addiction, abuse, or misuse and psychological flexibility or inflexibility and their components (acceptance, contact with the present moment, self as context, defusion, committed action, contact with values, experiential avoidance, lack of contact with the present moment, self as content, cognitive fusion, inaction, lack of contact with values). Results: positive association between experiential avoidance and substance abuse. Negative association between mindfulness (contact with the present moment) and substance abuse. Only one study reported a positive association between defusion and substance abuse. The files provide the coding protocol, the data extracted to conduct the meta-analysis and moderator analysis, and the assessment of quality of the studies included.
