Nanoscale variations in natural amorphous and nanocrystalline weathering products in mafic to intermediate volcanic terrains on Earth: Implications for amorphous detections on Mars
This study examined the compositions and structures of amorphous and nanocrystalline weathering products in Mars-relevant mafic to intermediate volcanic terrains altered under different climates and environments. The compositions and structures of terrestrial sedimentary amorphous and nanocrystalline materials could help constrain past weathering and diagenetic conditions on Mars, but relationships between their properties and formation conditions are still largely unknown. The tables in this data set show the individual compositions measured using TEM/EDS spot analyses, and serve as supplemental materials to figures shown in the corresponding manuscript. TEM analyses were performed using an FEI Talos F200X Scanning TEM operated at 200 kV accelerating voltage with a field emission source and a Super-X windowless energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) detector system with silicon drift detector technology. Elemental abundances were converted to wt.% oxide, and were normalized without Cu or C because of contribution from the TEM grids.
