The bulk of data is comprised of the transcriptomes of three species of haplosclerid sponges collected off the Irish coast in order to explore the types of genes present (and their evolution) associated with spicule production, i.e. silicateins. In addition we've added the glassin and silintaphin gene sequences resulting from searches in available hexactinellid and demosponge species respectively where transcriptomes/genomes were available. These are not available on their own in GenBank and so might be useful. The transcriptomes were generated using material from three replicate individuals of each species. RNA was extracted from flash-frozen tissue using the trizol method and sent to macrogen for library construction and sequencing. the transcriptomes generated from H. indistincta were 10MB and those from the other two species was 100 MB.
